Citizen Mycology

Welcome to my little shrine to the kingdom fungi.

Just a place for me to geek out about mushrooms and lichens. I've tried to add some of the same resources that helped me get started in amateur mycology/lichenology so I hope this will be of some use to other beginners. I'm an amateur, I have no degree in mycology or lichenology, no other academic training, I really just love fungi and don't want to bore the people in my life to death with my obsession. When you begin to observe fungi and lichens you suddenly become intimately aware of whole other worlds. I learned to see the little things, keep my gaze fixed on the ground, I looked closer, lingered longer. I am regularly laid prostrate on the ground in the pouring rain, staring at mushrooms on logs or lichens on rocks. It didn't take long for mycelium to colonize my brain and now my spare bedroom is home to a makeshift laboratory, I grow several species of culinary mushrooms and I run a small amateur mycology club.

You will find lots of information on how to get into mushrooms and lichens under the 'citizen science' tab. Nothing on this page is finished so check back for more content.

If you like what you find please leave me a comment below or shoot me an email, I am always eager to chat with like-minded folks about topics I cover here.

I am not an authority on mushrooms, just an enthusiast!

Please don't use any of my content as proof of ID. I'm an amateur at best and you should always be 110% positive of an ID before eating any mushroom you find in your travels.
